Deep powder in Siberia!

Ski Touring in Siberia, Lake Baïkal

Early powder to the East!

On the South-Western part of Lake Baïkal, the Khamar-Daban mountain range is stretching on more than 300km.
From November to January, and as long as the Baïkal is not frozen, the temperatures are a bit milder (in a Siberian way...) than in the rest of Siberia and the snow is dumping like nowhere else! There are many possibilities for ski touring, most of them being around the valley of Mamay, but we've been lucky to explore a few other spots in 2019 between Baikalsk and Vydrino.

Day By Day Program

Saturday : travel day. We take a late overnight flight from Moscow to Irkutsk.

Sunday : transfer from Irkutsk to Mamay. The road takes approximatively 3.5hrs, once at the entrance of Mamay valley a scooter will takes us up to our lodging, where we will get installed, check our gear, work on our safety drills & routines and why not have our first turns in Siberian powder!

Monday to Friday : powder party in Mamay! Everyday we go to explore a new part of the area where the possibilities are endless. When we will not be out skiing, expect the cozyness of a nice and warm lodge, some great food and the recovery offered by the Banya (Russian sauna).

Saturday : we wake up early for a last ski trip in the mountains of Siberia, before gliding down to the road where our ride will be waiting to take us back to Irkutsk. On the way we won't miss to stop by the Baikal to see the biggest fresh water lake in the world. In Irkutsk, we'll make sure to have enough time to see the city and have a great celebration dinner alltogether.

Sunday : travel day, with an early flight to Moscow before heading back home.

Lodging And Food

In such a cold climate, how we sleep and what we eat is a major part of both the comfort and the success of the trip.

Depending on the week and the availability, we will be accomodated in a wooden cottage or in siberian yurts. Both are traditional construction, with modern comfort and more than sufficient heating. If the weather rmight be a bit chilly outside, we will always come back to a nice and cosy lodge.

The rooms are shared and whatever the lodge there is electricity and washing possibilities (banya, washing basin, and showers at the hut).

A cook will serve us 3 warm meals a day, mostly made from local ingredients and showing the best of traditional siberian dishes. We'll also get plenty of snacks for our ski touring outings.

The Trans-Siberian Railway

Riding the legendary Trans-Siberian Railway is what we did on our first trip to Siberia, and we can only recommend it, both to lower the footprint of you journey but also to live an adventure you won't forget.
From Moscow it's a total of 4 days and 4 nights moving across this huge country, meeting people, seeing the scenery changing slowly to finally arrive on the shore of Lake Baïkal.

It's also easy to fly to one of the cities along the railway and jump on the train for a bit shorter ride. Omsk, Novosibirsk or Krasnoyarsk are the best options.

We'll be happy to help with the bookings if you're interested. Just get in touch with us.

In a group of 6

Small groups are our trademark and we'll stick to it.

As always, our groups are offering a maximum of 6 skiers for one guide.
This is for us the limit to be able to offer both the maximum comfort and the maximum safety.
Out on the terrain, a guide wants to have his full attention to the people that are trusting him and of course to the environnement, and this is simply not possible with too big groups.
The rest of the time, socializing and getting to know our guests is what we love to do, and this is made easier if we're fewer, simple as that.
