A wild Haute Route in the heart of the French Alps.

From Aussois to Bonneval sur Arc, seven days of high altitude ski touring, crossing glaciers, staying in mountain huts and never going down to the valley before the very last day.

A whole week above 2000m !

THE ROUTE

 

2 April (+400m / -300m)

Meeting in Aussois at 9am. We use the morning to review your gear and make sure that nothing is missing in your backpack.

In the early afternoon we take the chairlift, get a good bit of skiing and hike up to the Refuge de la Dent Parrachée (2515m)

3 April  (+900m / -1100m)

Col de Labby (3324m), glacier de la Mahure, Refuge de l'Arpont (2310m)

4 April (+1300m / -1500m)

Dôme de Chasseforêt (3586m), Vanoise glaciers, Refuge d'Entre Deux Eaux (2122m)

5 April (+900m / -500m)

We hike up the Rocheure valley until the Col du Pisset (2958m), then down to the Refuge du Fond des Fours (2532m)

6 April (+1250m / -950m)

Col des Fours (2976m), Pont de la Neige (on the summer road to the col de l'Iseran), col de l'Ouille Noire (3229m), Refuge du Carro (2759m)

7 April (+1050m / -900m)

Col des Pariotes (3034m), Sources de l*Arc, Col de Trièves (3080m), Col du Grand Mean, Refuge des Evettes (2590m)

8 April (+1150m / -1900m)

Selle de l'Albaron, then top of the Albaron (3637m), down to the Averole Valley and Bessans.

A genuine and forgotten Haute Route.

Starting at the foot of the Dent Parrachée (3695m), this Haute Route is following a logical itinerary on the east side of the Vanoise range, linking some of the biggest glaciers of the northern Alps, as well as taking you to some of the landmark summits of the region. It is quite unique to find yourself on the Glaciers de la Vanoise, an ice cap that is a remain of the last ice age.

Kept wild thanks to the National Park, the relative difficulty of access is a guarante for quietness, and apart from Aussois and a brief hike close to Val d'Isère, it is safe to say that there is not much competition for the first tracks on that Vanoise Haute Route. 

During these seven days away from the crowds, we invite you to a journey around the Haute-Maurienne, hiking and skiing the best terrain, looking for the best snow and never going back down to the valley!

Highest Point 3637m

The icing on the cake on the last day will be reaching the top of the Albaron 3637m, high above the Refuge des Evettes and its glacier. Starting early with the skis on, after 3 hours we'll put the skis on the backpack, put the boot crampons on and start to climb the final ridge to the top. Nothing too technical or difficult but this day is clearly the more "alpine" of the week.

From the top the view is stunning, from the Ecrins to the south to the Mont-Blanc, the Matterhorn and the Monterosa to the north.

A short rappel in the top cliff will take us on the glacier du Grand Fond, starting point of the last run of the week, all the way down to Bessans!
